Dr. Miceli is Professor and Vice Chair of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics at the David Geffen School of Medicine and the College of Life Sciences at UCLA. She is Co-Director for the Center for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at UCLA. She received her undergraduate degree in biochemistry and cell biology from University of California, San Diego. She went on to earn her Ph.D. in Immunology from Duke University for studies elucidating T cell mechanisms of human kidney allograft rejection. Her postdoctoral work at Stanford University Medical Center focused on the molecular basis of T cell antigen recognition. Since her appointment at UCLA, her lab has investigated the cellular and molecular basis of T cell immunity. More recently, she developed an interest in the role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). In addition to dissecting mechanisms of T cell activation, tolerance and developmental fate, her research has had broad relevance to cell biology and signal transduction. In 2004, together with Dr. Nelson, Dr. Miceli developed a program to design and implement cellular assays for high throughput small molecule screening for DMD-drug discovery.
